Selling Digital Downloads on Etsy: Demand Peaks in August
Across ten digital-product keywords, Google demand peaked in August at 1,119,720 and bottomed out in June at 526,820, a 1.7x gap between busiest and typical months. That makes digital downloads the least seasonal of Etsy's largest niches: halloween swings 75.5x, mother's day 11.3x, coloring pages 2x, and digital downloads only 1.7x, despite averaging 702,620 in monthly Google demand, the fourth-highest average of the 20 niches we measured. The August peak lines up with back-to-school and planner-season buying, driven by keywords like digital planner, budget spreadsheet, and resume template, but the underlying demand never really goes away.
Google demand for digital-download keywords, month by month
Trailing 12 months of Google demand across the digital-download keyword set. Demand never drops below 526,820, and the whole year sits inside a narrow band compared to the seasonal niches in our demand calendar.

Planner season lifts the whole niche, not one keyword
The August peak, 1,119,720 in Google demand against a 702,620 average, is driven by a cluster of back-to-school and new-year-planning keywords rather than a single holiday spike. Invoice template and notion template both peak in August alongside the overall curve, while resume template, the largest keyword in the set at 437,833 a month, peaks the following month in September as job-search and school-year activity ramps up.
The rest of the calendar tells a different story. Budget spreadsheet, digital planner, habit tracker printable, meal planner printable, and goodnotes stickers all peak in January, the classic new-year organization window. That second, smaller climb is part of why the niche never falls far below its own average: one cluster peaks in late summer, another in January, and the keywords in between keep demand from ever collapsing the way a single-occasion niche like Halloween does.
What this means for listing timing: digital products don't need a seasonal launch strategy the way Halloween or Christmas items do. List planners, spreadsheets, and templates any time, then push a refresh and retag ahead of the two real windows, August for back-to-school templates and January for organization printables, rather than waiting for a single narrow peak.
